Year 5/6 Spring Curriculum - What affects the needs of living things in different places?

This Spring term, children will be exploring a geography-based enquiry focused on what affects the needs of living things in different places. Through the study of aquatic and rainforest biomes, pupils will investigate how climate, vegetation and physical features influence how plants, animals and humans survive around the world. They will develop their map skills and use data such as temperature and rainfall to compare places, with a particular focus on Mexico and the UK, identifying key similarities and differences in climate, landscapes and ways of life. Alongside this, children will consider the impact of human activity, including pollution and deforestation, and reflect on shared responsibilities for protecting the environment. Their learning will be enriched through immersive experiences, discussions and fieldwork, and will be applied across a range of English writing genres, culminating in a high-quality double-page spread that showcases their geographical understanding and thoughtful reflections on global sustainability.

Year 5/6 Autumn Curriculum - How does war change the world?

This term, children will be delving into our history enquiry relating to WW1. We are aiming to provide them with a wide range of experiences and learning that can give them a good understanding of the significance of WW1. This learning will promote rich discussions about how events during The Great War changed the world and shaped the future. Alongside this, their learning will be further applied within their English writing genres.
