F2 had a great day on pancake day. F2 learnt about why we celebrate pancake day and then had our own yummy pancakes! They were so yummy!
F2 have been working really hard in Literacy over the past few weeks learning about the features of a letter and writing their very own letters. This week, we took a trip to the post box and posted our letters!
On Thursday morning, parents and carers of children in Year 5 and 6 were invited into the school to join us for a relaxing books and biscuits morning. The children were able to select or share stories they enjoy reading and read alongside parents and carers. The morning was a shining success with such a brilliant turn out! It was fantastic to see all of the children sharing stories with you all and building on their love for reading. We would like to pass on a huge thank you to all that arrived and shared the experience with their children. The children had a fantastic morning and thoroughly enjoyed sharing some stories with you.
On Thursday, KS2 children welcomed a visitor from Let's Go ZERO, a charity dedicated to helping schools achieve zero carbon emissions by 2030. The visitor engaged the children in a discussion about the causes of climate change and global warming. The children were also encouraged to identify actions they could take to help reduce the school's carbon footprint, which will be incorporated into the whole-school action plan. It was an inspiring and productive morning!
To kick start our new enquiry question in F2 'where would you like to explore?', we had a day all about the United Kingdom. We came to school wearing the colours of the Union Jack, sang the national anthem and we had a cup of tea and a slice of cake!
The Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed having a Roman day to showcase their learning in Mapplewells Museum.
They were able articulate their knowledge about the Romans and explain the different ways the Romans have changed and influenced Britain.
Parents were invited into school and enjoyed looking at the Roman showcase!
On Wednesday 11th December, Y5 children proudly represented our school and performed a selection of Christmas songs and carols in our local shopping centre - Idlewells. The children loved performing the Christmas songs and so did the public. We definitely put a smile on many faces and spread some Christmas cheer!
This week the Rotary Club came to school to talk to us about their initiative to raise awareness for polio, a disease that continues to impact communities around the world, mainly affecting children under 5 years of age.
Together with our F1 children The Rotary Club planted crocus bulbs in front of school on Henning Lane. The crocus, a flower that blooms in the early spring, was chosen for its vibrant colors and its connection to the global campaign to eradicate polio.
We look forward to seeing these crocuses bloom in the spring, a beautiful reminder of the ongoing fight for a polio-free world.
We had an amazing week of Nativities this week as Years 1 and 2 got to showcase their talents in their nativity. The children have worked exceptionally hard to learn their lines, sing their songs and put wonderful performances. Throughout the week they have performed to packed houses and rapturous applause. Well done to all who took part and thank you to all the staff for their hard work and time putting on the performance. We are very proud of everyone!
Here are just a few of our wonderful actors.
While the rest of the school was at the Panto, F1 had snuggle and a movie day, where children came to school in pyjamas or something comfy along with a teddy and blanket They enjoyed a treat while watching a fun film and had a wonderful time.
