Are celebrations always positive? 

During this term in F1 we have been learning about celebrations from around the world and the history and origins of these events including why we celebrate them. We have been learning about Christmas, Diwali, Remembrance Day, Hanukkah, Bonfire night, birthdays and about how families can be made up in different ways. We talked about how all celebrations are not positive.  

Spring Enquiry: Where would you like to explore?

During spring term, we have been learning about where we live and where we would like to explore. We have learnt all about Sutton In Ashfield and what different places we can visit, for example we have lots of shops and parks and a swimming pool. We looked at other countries which included South Africa and Italy. We looked at what food was traditionally from that country and what animals may live there and what their habitats may look like. We also talked about how the weather may be different in other countries and that some countries are really cold and others are warm. The children bought in photos of different places they had visited and we really enjoyed looking at these!

Summer Enquiry: Is Art All Around Us?

We have been doing lots of learning this term. We have discovered lots of different techniques in art which can be used. We learnt that an artist is somebody who creates art as their job and this can mean by painting, creating models, taking photographs and even singing and dancing. We experimented with mixing primary colours together to create others and learnt that yellow and red make orang and blue and green make purple. We have been looking at nature and how there is art all around us. We looked at the patterns on leaves and also what markings animals have. For our authentic outcome we re-created a piece of art by the artist Faye Baines. Each child painted different sheets of paper in different colours and these were collaged together to create a final piece.
