Curriculum Journey for F2 2025/26
Summer 2026
Enquiry Question: "Can Nature Inspire Art?"
This term, our enquiry question was “How can nature inspire art?”, with Art as our enquiry driver and Science as our enhancer. We began our learning journey by planting seeds and carefully observing how they changed and grew over time. This inspired our final piece of artwork, where we used our drawing and painting skills to create beautiful flower pieces.
Throughout the enquiry, we explored a range of artistic techniques and developed our understanding of colour, learning about primary colours and how to mix them to create secondary colours. We also completed observational drawings and studied the work of artists including Vincent Van Gogh and Caroline Ashwood, discussing how nature influenced their creations.
A visit from an illustrator gave us a fascinating insight into the creative process, helping us understand how artists find inspiration and bring their ideas to life.
In Science, we learned about living and non-living things and visited Forest School to investigate and identify examples of each in the natural environment.
To celebrate all that we had learned, we concluded our enquiry by hosting our very own Art Gallery in the school hall, proudly showcasing our artwork and sharing our learning with our parents and carers.
Spring 2026
Enquiry Question: "What makes Britain great?"
This term, our spring enquiry has been “What makes Britain great?” We have learned all about where we live in Sutton‑in‑Ashfield and explored some of the interesting places we can visit nearby, such as the library and our local churches. We also found out that the capital city of Britain is London, and that King Charles lives there. As part of our learning, we compared England and Spain. We discovered they are similar because both countries have famous artists—L.S. Lowry from England and Pablo Picasso from Spain—but they are also different because people in each country speak different languages. Through our enquiry, we have explored what makes our local area special and what makes Britain a great place to live.
Autumn 2025
Enquiry Question: "Who is significant?"
In F2 this autumn term, our enquiry question has been “Who is significant?” The children have explored history alongside art, learning about important figures from both the past and present, including Florence Nightingale, Robin Hood, Albert Ball, Mr Whittle, the Prime Minister, and King Charles. We have discussed what makes someone significant and whether their impact is positive or negative. In art, the children have focused on drawing faces and people, creating portraits of themselves and individuals they consider significant. This term has been full of curiosity, creativity, and thoughtful conversations about the people who shape our world.
