Our Learning Journey
Week 1
This week we observed three different natural disasters. We then investigated what we thought had caused these.
Week 2
This week we discovered the different human and physical characteristics of Spain by using pictures to investigate.
Week 3
This week we compared the physical and human features of Spain with the United Kingdom through the use of maps and pictures.
Week 4
This week we watched a video of a volcano erupting. We looked at the different elements of a volcano and then labelled the features.
Week 5
After learning about earthquakes, we discovered different ways that earthquakes can have an impact on our planet. We researched this using Ipads and then discussed this in groups.
Week 6
This week we used our prior knowledge of the different parts of a volcano and we learned the difference between an active, dormant and extinct volcano. On a map of the world we looked at the different active volcanos. We then showcased our knowledge by producing a leaflet.
Week 7
This week we used pieces of card to represent and understand the movements of tectonic plates. We then recorded this information and produced a labelled diagram.
Week 8
This week we carried out our own research about the impact that an earthquake can have on the planet, for example avalanches and tsunami's.
Week 9
Following on from our DT lesson where we erupted volcanos, we recorded the amount of lava from each group using a tally chart. We presented this data as a bar chart and discussed the importance of geographical data.
Week 10
This week concluded our learning about natural disasters. We used our knowledge to create a double page spread to answer our Spring term enquiry question 'How can our planet show anger?'.
Year 3 and 4 have been designing and creating an erupting volcano as part of their D&T project. Children worked in groups and took it in turns to add the ingredients, before standing back to watch the eruption. We then evaluated how well we think the reaction between the Bicarbonate of Soda and vinegar went and what we could do differently next time to improve our final project.
