Papplewick Pumping Station
On Friday 17th March, Year 6 explored connections through delving into how technology has advanced between different historical periods of time. Visitors from Papplewick Pumping Station provided a full-day workshop which was filled with scientific connections through periods of time. This exploration was around the engineering of pumping clean water throughout communities and the science behind how this developed through time. Children completed various activities throughout the day which included: labelling, describing and acting out the pumping system; investigating how to make their own working pump; and recognising how the developments have impacted people's daily lives. However, children also linked this science learning with aspects of Learning for Life as we recognised that, even in 2023, not all children / families have access to clean water.
