KS1 at Newstead Abbey
Thu 12 Oct 2023KS1 had an amazing day at Newstead Abbey exploring what life was like in the Victorian era. We experienced what a Victorian classroom would be like, learning about the back straightner, the dunce hat and what kind of lessons they would have learnt. We also headed to the kitchen where we helped the cook to make butter. Then finally we went under the stairs with the servant maid who showed us how to make herb bags that were used when people were feeling poorly. The children really were engaged in the day and took away lots of interesting learning.

We also made Stone Age jewellery out of natural resources we could find, just like the Hunter-gatherers did.
